RETAIL PARK

By Retail Park is meant a group of stores, generally medium to large in size, conceived, designed and built in a unified way, with direct access by the public from the parking lot or open pedestrian passages. A Retail Park, to be defined as such, must include at least 5,000 sq.mt. of GLA and three specialized store areas, with the store windows facing directly on the large parking areas serving all the stores present.

The architectural structure of the retail park is generally horizontal and is flanked by the neighboring stores, but to a lesser extent with respect to the sales area of the large brands. All the sales units must be provided with a suitable loading and unloading area that does not conflict with the flow of customers

Retail parks are often built in former industrial parks or on the side of plants that have shut down, and are therefore an example of urban landscape requalification.

Official ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) definition, from the International Standard for European Shopping Center Types, 2006:
"A Retail Park, also known as a “power center,” is a consistently designed, planned and managed scheme that comprises mainly medium- and large-scale specialist retailers (“big boxes” or “power stores”)."
